It’s a daunting challenge to write music for a film defined by its iconic needle drops. Tuner is exactly that: an NYC suspense film with a backdrop of iconic jazz tunes and masterful piano-ing. Was excited to see Will Bates on the end credits and he definitely rose to the challenge. The assignment could have gone in many directions, which this sort of does while also picking its lane most of the time: perc-heavy running music. I was eager to hear more of a theme throughout, but the music was such a character in the movie it almost didn’t matter. Really cool ideas for a very tough assignment from Will Bates.
